Job Details
- Location: Hilo, HI 96720 — Hilo nursing jobs, Hawaii healthcare, Big Island travel nurse opportunity
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (April 20, 2026 – July 20, 2026)
- Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 – 07:15)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours (following orientation week)
- Setting: Cardiac Stepdown / Telemetry with float flexibility to Medical, Surgical Acute (Laulima), and Cardiovascular Units
- Unit Details: Medical (77 beds), Laulima (18 beds), Cardiovascular (15 beds)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Medical: 1:8 (nights), Laulima: 1:6, Cardiovascular: 1:4 (may vary)
- Dress Code: Professional nursing attire – clean scrubs
- Orientation: Comprehensive unit-specific orientation provided
Required Qualifications (Cardiac / Telemetry RN)
- Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in stepdown, telemetry, or similar acute care setting — cardiac nursing experience preferred
- Active RN license — Hawaii RN license required by assignment start date (compact license holders: verify state requirements)
- BLS required; ACLS preferred. Additional certifications a plus: PALS, Procedural Sedation, TNCC, ENPC
- Experience with Meditech EMR, Pyxis, wound vacs, and chest tube management preferred
- Ability to float between medical, surgical, and cardiovascular units as needed
- Must arrive in Hilo the Thursday before start date for employee health appointment on Friday
- Proof of immunity required (medical and religious exemptions not accepted)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, compassionate patient care in Cardiac Stepdown and related units — telemetry monitoring and complex cardiac case management
- Assess, monitor, and manage patients with acute cardiac and medical needs
- Administer medications, manage IV therapy, and perform procedures including wound care and chest tube management
- Accurate, timely documentation using Meditech EMR (electronic medical records)
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
- Float to Medical, Laulima (surgical acute), and Cardiovascular units as required by patient census
- Participate in ongoing training, unit orientation, and professional development opportunities
