- Shifts: 8-hour day shifts (7:00am–3:30pm or 9:00am–5:30pm)
- Call: Extensive call required, including rotating weekends and holidays
- Floating: May float to General OR as needed; experience in multiple surgical specialties valued
Job Requirements / Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited civilian or military Operating Room Technician / Surgical Technologist program
- Current certification from an NCCA-accredited entity recognized by the American College of Surgeons and Association of Surgical Technologists (must maintain certification)
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular OR (CVOR) surgical tech experience required — experience in cardiac/cardiovascular surgery preferred
- Strong sterile technique and familiarity with AORN Standards of Care
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
Key Responsibilities
- Provide CVOR scrub technician support during cardiovascular and general surgical procedures under the direct supervision of the surgeon and RN
- Prepare operating rooms: set up surgical instruments, sterile drapes, supplies, and equipment for CVOR and other specialties
- Maintain and monitor a sterile field in accordance with hospital policy and AORN standards
- Assemble, operate, and adjust sterile and non-sterile equipment, including lights, suction, and diagnostic equipment
- Pass instruments, sutures, and sterile supplies to the surgical team; assist with retractors, specimen care, and surgical dressings
- Ensure availability and proper functioning of surgeon- and case-specific instrumentation and implants for cardiovascular cases
- Safely prepare and label medications during procedures under RN/surgeon supervision
- Participate in OR turnover, restocking, and inventory management to support efficient surgical services
- Assist with patient transport, positioning, and safe transfer to recovery
- Support orientation for new OR staff and participate in ongoing education, in-services, and team meetings
- Demonstrate compassionate, accountable, and professional service excellence in the operating room
