- Position: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse / PCU RN / Stepdown RN (Travel RN)
- Location: Winston-Salem, NC 27103 — Winston-Salem healthcare / North Carolina nursing jobs
- Unit: 5th West Intermediate Care Unit (ICU Stepdown)
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks
- Start Date: March 30, 2026
- Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15)
- Hours per Week: 36 or 48 hours available
- Patient Ratio: 1:3-4
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: Required to sister ICCU unit as needed
- Scrubs: Navy, white, or a combination
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $1660-$1750
Job Requirements / Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years recent PCU / Stepdown / IMC / DOU experience (critical care or progressive care experience required)
- Active RN license in North Carolina or an active NLC compact state RN license (required at start)
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Strong experience with arterial lines and titrating vasoactive drips (critical care medication titration)
- Proficiency in telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Experience with rapid response teams, IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, and central/PICC/peripheral line care
- Experience managing chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, and tracheostomy care
- Epic charting experience preferred (Epic EMR / electronic medical record experience)
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
- First-time travel nurses accepted — Travel RN friendly
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in a PCU / ICU stepdown setting (acute care and critical care duties)
- Monitor and manage patients with complex diagnoses including post-rapid response, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, and post-operative cases
- Administer and titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips (e.g., Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Neo) safely and per protocol
- Manage arterial lines, chest tubes, tracheostomies, and non-invasive ventilation therapies
- Interpret telemetry and bedside monitoring data and escalate changes in patient condition
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including IV team, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, and rapid response
- Float to sister units as required based on census and skill set
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation using Epic (EMR charting, clinical documentation)
- Adhere to isolation precautions and infection control protocols to ensure patient and staff safety
