  • Location: Washington, DC 20010 — Washington DC travel nurse opportunity with easy access to museums, parks, and urban amenities.
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Start Date: April 27, 2026
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,900 - $2,000
  • Shift: 12-hour rotating shifts (Days: 07:00–19:30, Nights: 19:00–07:30)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Employment Type: Travel (travel nurse / travel nursing job)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2 (cardiac ICU / CVICU)
  • Unit Size: 32 beds (Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit)
  • Orientation: 28 hours
  • Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend required
  • Float Requirement: Float to ICU and IMC units as needed

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU / Cardiac ICU experience (critical care RN experience required)
  • Active DC Registered Nurse (RN) license — pending at submission accepted; must be in hand prior to start
  • ACLS and BLS certifications required
  • Travel nursing experience preferred
  • Must pass Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam (80% overall, 100% on lethal rhythms)
  • Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
  • Ability to float to ICU and IMC as needed; flexible for weekend and holiday coverage
  • Two supervisor references required

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide expert, evidence-based nursing care for adult and geriatric patients recovering from cardiac and major vascular surgeries in a CVICU / cardiac ICU setting
  • Manage advanced cardiovascular technologies: VAD, ECMO, IABP, Swan-Ganz catheters, CRRT, external and temporary pacing devices
  • Interpret and manage dysrhythmias, titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips, and administer emergency medications as a critical care RN
  • Perform invasive line management: arterial lines, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, and hemodynamic monitoring
  • Assist with chest tube insertion/removal and lumbar drains; support surgical and post-operative cardiac care
  • Monitor and care for mechanically ventilated patients, manage ventilators and high-flow nasal cannula therapies
  • Implement infection prevention, isolation precautions, and patient safety protocols
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams: Cardiothoracic Surgeons, Anesthesia, Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Social Services, and Case Management
  • Float to ICU and IMC units as assigned; work every other weekend and required holidays
