Job Details
- Location: A leading hospital in Madison, WI
- Position: Travel Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – Hospital/Acute Care
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks (April 13, 2026 – July 13, 2026)
- Shift Duration: 12 Hour Nights
- Shift Options: Night 3x12-hour (19:00 – 07:30), Mid 5x8-hour (15:00 – 23:30), Evening/Night 8/12 hr shifts; every other weekend & holiday rotation
- Hours per Week: 36
- Call Requirement: One 12-hour call shift every 6 weeks
- Orientation: Approximately 40 hours
- Parking: Permit required for onsite parking; alternative transportation options available
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a staff respiratory therapist in an acute care hospital setting, with both pediatric and adult experience
- Experience in an Academic Level 1 Trauma Center or similar-size tertiary hospital preferred
- Graduate of a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program
- Current Respiratory Care Practitioner license for the State of Wisconsin (license must be in hand at submittal)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Current BLS, PALS, and NRP certifications (American Heart Association)
- Epic electronic charting experience required
- Traveler's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility
- Telemetry exam required prior to start (strict pass/fail criteria)
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality respiratory care across pediatric and adult populations in ICU, IMC, and step-down units
- Manage mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation (NIV), high-flow oxygen therapy, and ventilator weaning
- Perform aerosolized medication administration, tracheostomy care, airway clearance techniques, and sputum inductions
- Assist with intubation, extubation, drawing arterial blood gases (ABGs), and ventilator management
- Support neonatal transports and assist in high-risk deliveries as needed (pediatric respiratory therapist duties)
- Provide pulmonary hygiene, chest physiotherapy, and secretion management for diagnoses such as ARDS, pneumonia, cystic fibrosis, and respiratory distress syndrome
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (physicians, nurses, therapists) to ensure coordinated critical care
- Float between units based on staffing needs and participate in weekend/holiday rotations
