Travel Nurse Job Details
- Location: Springfield, IL 62781 — Illinois nursing jobs / Springfield healthcare
- Setting: Acute Care Hospital – Oncology / Medical-Surgical (MS) Unit
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks (April 6, 2026 – July 6, 2026)
- Shift: Day shifts, 3x12-hour (07:15 – 18:45)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Patient Census: 24 beds/rooms (typical med/surg + oncology patient ratio)
- Charting: Cerner (EMR) — Cerner experience preferred
- Scrub Color: Any solid color
- Parking: Free with permit
Travel Nurse / Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license (in hand or in application process) — must meet state licensure requirements
- Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg RN experience; Oncology RN experience preferred
- Chemo certification preferred (ONS/ONCC, OCN) — chemotherapy administration and oncology nursing experience preferred
- BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross only)
- Experience with Cerner EMR/charting system preferred
- Ability to float within the hospital or to affiliate hospitals as needed — travel nursing flexibility required
- Comfort with patient ratios of approximately 6-7
- Weekend and holiday coverage required
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
Oncology / Med-Surg RN Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to adult and geriatric patients on a mixed medical-surgical floor with oncology and hospice specialties
- Administer chemotherapy and manage post-chemotherapy care, including handling body fluids, continuous infusions, IV push medications, and oral chemotherapy
- Monitor chemotherapy treatments, interpret and communicate abnormal lab values, and escalate concerns to the care team
- Manage cytotoxic spills and follow safe handling and disposal protocols
- Perform IV therapy and infusion procedures: accessing ports, central line and PICC line care, blood product administration, and starting IVs
- Provide patient and family education, support, and discharge teaching related to oncology and medical-surgical care
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Pharmacy, Social Services, and Rapid Response Teams
- Float as needed to meet facility requirements and support high-quality patient care across units
