Job Requirements / Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years recent experience in Cardiac Stepdown, IMC, Telemetry, or Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license required at time of application
• ACLS and BLS certifications (American Heart Association or Red Cross only)
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Experience with Cerner electronic charting system required
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Experience in Level I trauma and teaching hospital settings preferred
• Ability to float to like units as needed
• Must work every other weekend and 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to adult patients with cardiac and complex medical needs in a stepdown/Telemetry setting
• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, manage dysrhythmias, and respond to cardiopulmonary emergencies
• Care for post-procedural cardiac patients (angiogram, MI, cardiac cath, cardiac surgery, sheath removal, TR band)
• Manage feeding tubes, pre/post hemodialysis, renal failure, and IV therapy including ports, arterial lines, central lines, and PICC lines
• Administer and titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips, manage heparin protocols, and handle blood product administration
• Provide care for patients with neurological, respiratory, and complex wound needs (CVA, chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, wound vac)
• Utilize isolation precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including IV team, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
• Float to similar units within the hospital as needed
• Document patient care accurately and timely using Cerner electronic health record
