PTA Job Requirements (Qualifications)
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a PTA in an outpatient clinic or similar outpatient rehab setting
- Active or pending Illinois PTA license required at time of application (Illinois PTA license)
- BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross)
- Experience with vital sign monitoring and basic clinical assessments
- Strong documentation skills: assessments, discharge planning, short-term goals, outcomes tracking
- Clinical skills: home exercise program (HEP) instruction, safe lifting/transfers, gait training, therapeutic exercise, use of assistive devices (walkers, canes), and familiarity with sit-to-stand and Hoyer lifts
- Ability to recognize and report signs/symptoms of physical, sexual, or psychological abuse
- First-time travelers accepted; weekend coverage not required
- Must be able to work 2 out of 3 major holidays if assignment overlaps
Primary Responsibilities — Outpatient Rehab PTA
- Provide high-quality physical therapy assistance to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in outpatient and swingbed units
- Conduct patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and assist with documentation in Cerner
- Develop and implement individualized home exercise programs (HEP) and therapeutic exercise plans
- Deliver gait training, balance interventions, transfer and mobility assistance using equipment such as sit-to-stand lifts, Hoyer lifts, and walkers
- Assist with discharge planning and communicate progress and short-term goals to supervising PT and interdisciplinary team
- Support patients with diagnoses including neurological conditions, post-surgical recovery, balance disorders, amputations, chronic pain, COPD, and oncology-related rehab
- Maintain patient safety and a supportive environment; recognize and report any signs of abuse
