- Location: Pikeville, KY 41501 — travel nursing job in Eastern Kentucky
- Assignment Duration: 8 weeks
- Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (12-hour nights) — night shift orthopedic RN
- Hours per Week: 48 hours (guaranteed)
- Employment Type: Travel / Contract Nurse
- Unit: 8A Surgical Unit — orthopedic surgery, trauma, perioperative care
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $1,800 - $1,890/week
Job Requirements / Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in nursing required; Bachelor’s degree (BSN) preferred
- Active RN license (KY license or multi-state compact RN preferred) — must meet state licensure requirements for travel nursing
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and EKG required
- Minimum 2 years of recent orthopedic or surgical nursing experience (5 years preferred)
- Travel nursing experience required — proven success in short-term orthopedic assignments
- Strong English communication skills (read, write, speak)
- Experience with orthopedic post-op care, traction, chest tubes, and complex wound/drain management
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive pre- and post-operative care for general, bariatric, orthopedic, trauma, neurosurgical, and genitourinary patients
- Assess and reassess young adult, adult, and elderly patients using the nursing process to achieve optimal outcomes
- Manage pain control, chest tube care and insertion support, PEG/G-tube/J-tube care, traction, and various drainage systems (Percutaneous, Sump, Jackson-Pratt, Hemovac)
- Administer medications, specialized IV drips, titration, transfusion therapy, and IV therapy in accordance with facility protocols
- Perform thorough head-to-toe assessments and maintain accurate, timely nursing documentation (electronic charting experience preferred)
- Support patient confidentiality and advocate for psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs
- Develop, implement, and evaluate patient and family teaching plans focused on orthopedic surgery recovery and discharge planning
- Supervise, delegate, and allocate work to other healthcare staff; serve as team leader when assigned
- Assist physicians with bedside procedures, respond promptly to changing workload and patient acuity
- Participate in performance improvement activities, unit-based initiatives, and serve as a preceptor for new staff and travel nurses
- Maintain and operate patient care equipment; assist with cost containment and safe resource use
- Perform housekeeping and patient transport duties as needed; adhere to dress code, infection control, and safety policies
