- Role: Travel Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN), Night Shift
- Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Magnet facility, Level I Trauma Center
- Unit: 23-bed Surgical/Medical Unit (Med/Surg)
- Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (April 13, 2026 – July 13, 2026)
- Shift: Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts per week (18:45 – 07:15); 36 hours/week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Guaranteed Hours: Up to 36 hours may be called off per contract
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $2000-$2100/week
- Charting / EMR: Cerner (Cerner experience preferred)
- Scrubs: Any solid color
- Parking: Free with permit
Qualifications / Job Requirements
- Minimum 1 year recent Med/Surg RN experience — strong Med/Surg clinical skills
- Active Illinois RN license (or in application process with ETA) — Illinois nursing jobs
- BLS (AHA or Red Cross) and NIHSS certifications required
- Experience with PICC line management and IV starts (phlebotomy skills)
- Previous charge nurse or leadership experience preferred
- Cerner charting experience preferred
- Willingness to float within scope to other units or affiliate hospitals as needed
- Ability to work 2 out of 3 major holidays if assignment overlaps
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients on a 23-bed Med/Surg unit
- Manage and monitor patients with neurological and surgical diagnoses, including stroke, TIA, brain mass, seizures, spinal cord injuries, and post-surgical cases
- Perform and manage IV starts and PICC line care; medication administration
- Administer common medications including Levetiracetam, lorazepam, aspirin, Lovenox, heparin, antihypertensives, Plavix, atorvastatin, and Eliquis
- Assist with special procedures such as EEG and lumbar puncture
- Document thoroughly using Cerner electronic medical record
- Float to other units or affiliate hospitals as needed to meet facility needs
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (physicians, therapists, case management) to ensure optimal patient outcomes
