- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,130 - $2,250
- Location: University Hospital, Madison, WI 53792 — Madison, Wisconsin travel nursing job
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks (April 20, 2026 – July 20, 2026)
- Shift: Day/Evening, 12-hour shifts (7:00am – 7:30pm), Monday through Friday with every other weekend and some holidays required
- Hours per Week: 36
- Patient Ratio: 1:3 (cardiac stepdown/progressive care)
- Unit: IMC Acute Med/Progressive Care and IMC Thoracic units — Cardiac Stepdown / Progressive Care / IMC nursing
- Job Type: Travel Nurse / Contract Nursing
Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years in Cardiac Stepdown, IMC, or ICU settings (cardiac RN, progressive care experience preferred)
- WI RN or compact RN license (must be in hand at submittal)
- AHA ACLS and BLS certifications required
- Experience with Epic electronic health record (Epic charting experience required)
- ICU/IMC and surgical post-op experience required; thoracic experience preferred
- Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I experience preferred
- Traveler will be required to pass a telemetry test prior to start (strict passing criteria) — strong telemetry monitoring skills required
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only)
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care for adult and geriatric patients recovering from cardiac and thoracic surgeries, including esophagectomies, lung volume reduction, wedge resection, and post-cardiac surgery stepdown care
- Assist with and manage surgical drains, chest tubes, central lines, arterial lines, and PICC lines
- Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry, manage dysrhythmias, and actively participate in rapid response and code teams
- Administer blood products, titrate vasoactive drips, manage IV insulin protocols, and perform wound care using evidence-based nursing practices
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including IV therapy, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, and social services to coordinate patient-centered care
- Float to other units as needed based on staffing requirements (flexible travel RN responsibilities)
- Contribute to a dynamic, innovative unit culture focused on quality improvement and best practices in progressive care and cardiac nursing
