Job Requirements (RRT / Respiratory Therapist)
- Minimum 1 year recent critical care experience as an RRT in ER, ICU, or trauma settings (2 years preferred)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from NBRC (CRT not accepted)
- Active Respiratory Care Practitioner license from the VA State Board of Medicine (pending accepted with temporary authorization)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- EPIC charting experience required
- Comfortable working in a high-volume ER, Level 1 Trauma Center, and ICU; able to float within skillset as needed
- COVID-19 and Flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions only)
- Travelers must work at least one holiday during a 13-week contract
- Local candidates within 100 miles are not accepted
Key Responsibilities (Travel RRT / Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities)
- Provide respiratory care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in ER, ICU, and trauma settings in a Level 1 Trauma Center
- Administer aerosol and medication delivery systems (mask, trach, MDI, Medihaler) and manage nebulizer systems (handheld, T-piece, trach collar, ultrasonic)
- Skilled administration of Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, Pulmicort, Mucomyst, racemic epinephrine, inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, bicarbonate, and lidocaine
- Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and manage ventilators including BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, flow-by; troubleshoot alarms and participate in ventilator weaning/ventilator liberation protocols
- Perform airway management: extubation, oral/nasal airway placement, suctioning, sputum collection, and tracheostomy care
- Set up and manage oxygen therapy, high-flow systems, and advanced devices
- Operate advanced equipment: Servo I, Servo U, V-60 BiPAP, Optiflow heated high flow, iNO with iNOvent, LTV1200
- Follow Assess and Treat protocols and institutional ventilator liberation policies
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and Rapid Response Teams to deliver critical care
- Document all care accurately and timely using EPIC
