  • Shift: Night, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00 – 07:30)

  • Employment Type: Travel / Contract RN
  • Patient Ratio: 1:1–2 (cardiac critical care)
  • Float Requirement: RNs will float to all ICUs, PACU, ED for ICU holding patients, and IMC units
  • Weekend/Holiday Coverage: Every other weekend and 2 of 3 holidays required

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience in CVICU, SICU, or Cardiac ICU (cardiothoracic critical care)
  • Active New Jersey RN license or Compact RN license (accepted)
  • Current BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS and Stroke CEUs required
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record (EMR) preferred
  • Comfortable with mechanical circulatory support and advanced hemodynamic monitoring
  • First-time travel nurses and local RNs accepted

Key Responsibilities (Cardiac Critical Care / CVICU RN)

  • Provide expert post-op cardiac care for fresh open heart cases (CABG, MVR, AVR, TAVR) and other cardiothoracic procedures
  • Manage ventilated patients, chest tubes, lumbar drains, and acute renal failure
  • Support and monitor advanced devices: Swan-Ganz (PA) catheters, FloTrac, temporary pacers, arterial lines, Impella, IABP
  • Administer and titrate vasoactive drips, inotropes, and emergency medications; provide procedural sedation as indicated
  • Manage CRRT (Prismaflex) and collaborate with renal support teams for continuous renal replacement therapy
  • Interpret 12-lead EKGs and arterial blood gases (ABGs); perform advanced hemodynamic assessments
  • Assist with BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube insertion/removal, and post-op open heart recovery protocols
  • Float to other critical care areas as needed and adapt to changing patient acuity
  • Maintain strict infection prevention, isolation precautions, and patient safety standards
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, Radiology, Pharmacy, Social Work, and Rapid Response teams
