  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,020 – $2,130
  • Location: Bangor, Maine (04401) — travel nurse opportunity
  • Setting: Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Facility (Pediatric & Adult Units)
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks (April 27, 2026 – July 25, 2026)
  • Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) — psychiatric night shift experience preferred
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend

Qualifications / Job Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of behavioral health / psychiatric nursing experience required
  • Pediatric behavioral health experience preferred; manager approval required if not
  • Valid Maine RN license (compact or state license as required)
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association preferred)
  • MOAB certification (provided onsite during orientation)
  • Comfortable floating between pediatric and adult inpatient psychiatric units
  • Experience with de-escalation techniques, therapeutic interventions, and physical restraints
  • First-time travel nurses welcome — ideal for Travel RN and Psychiatric Nurse applicants

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric nursing care to pediatric (5–18) and adult (18+) inpatients with diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, eating disorders, and other behavioral health conditions
  • Float between pediatric and adult units as clinical needs require
  • Perform medication administration / medication passes, use Pyxis for secure medication management, and document accurately in Cerner
  • Lead and facilitate therapeutic group sessions and individual interventions
  • Participate in scenario-based de-escalation training, act as code leader during escalations, and maintain safety protocols
  • Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team including nurse managers, supervisors, psychiatric techs, occupational therapists, nurse practitioners, and psychiatrists
  • Maintain professional standards of practice and appearance, including solid color scrubs
  • Complete thorough documentation and participate in holiday/weekend rotations as scheduled
