Job Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of bedside clinical experience in a Med/Surg setting (Med/Surg nursing)
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
• BLS Certification (required prior to first shift)
• ACLS Certification (required prior to first shift)
• Ability to supervise Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN/LVN), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), and orientees

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality patient care following individualized nursing care plans in an acute care/medical-surgical unit
• Perform thorough nursing assessments within 8 hours of admission and develop individualized care plans
• Identify patient and family teaching needs and set measurable teaching goals
• Accurately document assessments, nursing interventions, and patient responses in a timely manner
• Participate in patient rehabilitation and provide direct patient care using the nursing process
• Initiate discharge planning and patient teaching beginning at admission to support safe transitions of care
• Communicate changes in patient status to the interdisciplinary care team to ensure continuity and safety
• Supervise, delegate, and collaborate with ancillary nursing personnel (LPN/LVN, CNA) to optimize patient outcomes
• Promote patient and employee safety by following hospital policies, procedures, and best practices
• Foster a positive, efficient work environment through teamwork, clear communication, and calm direction
• Assume charge nurse responsibility as requested after orientation
• Engage in professional development through continuing education and self-directed learning
