Job Requirements (Qualifications)
- Active Illinois RN license (or evidence that Illinois application process has been initiated)
- BLS certification (AHA required)
- Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg RN experience; Surgical Acute or post-op nursing experience strongly preferred
- Proven skills in post-op care, wound care, IV therapy, and clinical critical thinking
- Compassionate bedside care, strong teamwork, and ability to ask for support when needed
- Negative drug screen required (OSF is a Drug-Free Campus)
Core Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to post-op surgical, trauma, and overflow medical patients on a Med/Surg unit.
- Perform dressing changes, wound care, IV management, pain control, drains, NG care, central line care, and TPN administration.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members including charge nurses, patient care techs, respiratory therapists, and physicians.
- Manage patients on CPAP and high-flow oxygen; RNs handle inhaler administration and CPAP placement while RT manages nebs.
- Float to units of similar acuity as needed to support staffing and patient care demands.
- Document patient care and assessments in EPIC — orientation includes EPIC training (one 12-hour shift).
- Adhere to unit policies and dress code (any color scrubs permitted).
Orientation & Scheduling
- Orientation: 2 shifts with a preceptor plus one 12-hour EPIC/professional orientation shift.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.
- Holiday Requirement: Rotating every other holiday.
