ICU Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardio Thoracic ICU (CTICU) – Travel Contract | Chesapeake, VA

ICU RN (Cardiothoracic/CTICU) travel contract in Chesapeake, VA — 13-week night travel nursing assignment seeking experienced CVICU/CTICU nurses with 2+ years of recent cardiac ICU experience and an active VA or Compact RN license. Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,020 - $2,130
  • Location: Chesapeake, VA 23320 (Travel Nursing — Coastal Virginia; near Virginia Beach & Norfolk)
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
  • Shift: Night shift, 12 hours (19:00 - 07:30); contract options include either 3x12-hour shifts (36 hours/week) or 4x12-hour shifts (48 hours/week) per week. Overtime is available and billed after 48 hours on a 4x12 contract.
  • Unit: Cardiac ICU (CTICU) — 8 beds, universal bed model
  • Start Date: April 20, 2026
  • End Date: July 20, 2026

Job Requirements / Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years recent CVICU/CTICU (cardiac ICU) experience — required
  • Travel nursing experience preferred (travel RN)
  • Active Virginia RN license or Compact RN license in hand at time of application (no exceptions)
  • Current BLS and ACLS (AHA); NIHSS certification required
  • EPIC charting proficiency required (electronic medical record experience)
  • No prior license or background hits; must pass facility credentialing and compliance checks
  • Must pass EKG testing (80% or higher; no remediation)
  • Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions allowed)
  • Applicant must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (travel nurse housing/commute requirement)

Key Responsibilities — Cardiac ICU / Critical Care RN

  • Provide expert critical care for post-operative CABG, acute coronary syndromes (NSTEMI/STEMI), CHF, and stepdown cardiac patients
  • Manage arterial lines, central/PICC lines, blood product administration, and IV therapies
  • Administer and titrate cardiac/vasoactive drips and continuous/procedural IV sedation
  • Monitor and interpret dysrhythmias; manage FloTrac/Vigileo, Swan-Ganz, and pulmonary artery catheters
  • Care for mechanically ventilated patients; manage ventilator settings, BiPAP/CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula
  • Perform infection prevention, isolation precautions, and wound/drain care (including wound VACs)
  • Assist with renal replacement therapies (CVVHD/CRRT), IV insulin protocols, and acute stroke workflows
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams: IV therapy, PT, RT, pharmacy, radiology, and rapid response teams
  • Float as needed and provide coverage for holidays during the contract
