  • Position: CVICU Registered Nurse / Cardiac ICU Nurse (Travel RN)
  • Location: Winston?Salem, NC 27103 — North Carolina nursing jobs
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15) — Night shift CVICU RN
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Patient Ratio: 1:1 nights, 2:1 weekends
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Float Requirement: May float within hospital or to affiliate hospitals based on census and skill set
  • Self-Scheduling: Yes

Required Qualifications for CVICU Travel RN

  • Minimum 2 years recent critical care experience—CVICU or open heart required (Cardiac ICU experience)
  • Travel RN experience required (no first-time travelers)
  • Active RN license in North Carolina or Compact State (must be in hand at start)
  • Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Experience with Epic charting system preferred
  • Ability to float to other units as needed
  • References: Two manager/supervisor references from within the past 12 months preferred
  • Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in the CVICU for post-open heart recovery and complex cardiac surgical patients
  • Care for patients after thoracotomies, esophagogastrectomies, and TAVR procedures
  • Interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias and titrate cardiac drips
  • Manage advanced life support devices including ECMO, IABP, Impella, CRRT, and VADs (LVAD/RVAD)
  • Monitor and manage pulmonary artery (Swan?Ganz) catheters, arterial lines, and central lines
  • Administer blood products and perform ventilator management, including continuous IV sedation and ABG interpretation
  • Assist with chest tube insertion/removal, BiPAP/CPAP management, and high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
  • Maintain isolation precautions and proper PPE usage
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams: respiratory therapy, IV/pump teams, physical therapy, pharmacy, and rapid response
  • Document care accurately using SBAR and Epic; medication management via Pyxis
