This travel nursing job is based at a respected acute care facility offering Med/Surg and Neuro/Stroke acute care. Job Details
- Position: Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nurse (Night Shift)
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,750 – $1,840
- Location: Homewood, AL 35209 (near Vulcan Park, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Birmingham Zoo) — ideal for Birmingham nursing job seekers
- Setting: Acute Care – Med/Surg, Neuro Acute Care (stroke unit experience preferred)
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks (March 30, 2026 – June 29, 2026)
- Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 – 07:15)
- Hours per Week: 36 (guaranteed; up to 3 cancellations per contract)
- Weekend Rotation: Every 3rd weekend
- Float Requirements: May float to other acute care units or facilities within a 25-mile radius
- Unit Size: 24 beds
- Patient Ratio: 1:6
- EMR: Cerner (experience preferred)
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years recent Med/Surg RN experience (neuro/post-stroke acute care preferred)
- Active RN license (compact or state-specific as required)
- BLS certification (AHA)
- NIHSS certification (AHA) required
- Clinical proficiency in neuro/post-stroke care, dysphagia screenings, and stroke assessments
- Experience with BCMA and Cerner EMR documentation
- Strong time management, interdisciplinary communication, and patient-centered care skills
- Professional, adaptable, and hardworking nursing approach; compliant with TJC and CMS attire guidelines
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to patients on a 24-bed Med/Surg unit with a neuro acute care focus
- Perform dysphagia screenings and comprehensive stroke assessments per protocol
- Administer medications and document using BCMA and Cerner EMR for accurate medication safety
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient-centered care plans
- Float to other acute care units or nearby facilities as needed to meet patient care demands
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, TJC, and CMS regulatory standards
- Demonstrate effective time management and clear communication with patients and staff
