SICU Registered Nurse (Travel Nurse) – Washington, DC (20060). 13-week contract, night shift, must have ACLS & BLS; minimum 2 years SICU/critical care RN experience. - Setting: Level 1 Trauma, Teaching Hospital (Surgical ICU)
- Unit: SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit) — critical care RN, ICU nurse
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks (April 20, 2026 – July 20, 2026)
- Shift: Nights, 4x12-hour (19:30 – 08:00)
- Hours per Week: 36 (guaranteed)
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Weekend/Holiday Coverage: Every other weekend and holiday required
- Parking & Transit: Multiple parking options; easily accessible by Metro and bus
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent SICU/critical care RN experience (4 years preferred)
- Active DC RN license required at time of submission (Washington, DC RN)
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- COVID-19 vaccine required (no exemptions); Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only)
- Ability to float within scope to meet facility needs
- Two supervisor references required
- First-time travel nurses welcome
Core Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to post-trauma and surgical patients in the SICU
- Manage patient assignments at a 1:2 ratio as a critical care RN/ICU nurse
- Utilize advanced critical care skills including ECMO, EVD management, ventilator management, and acute stroke/CVA protocols
- Interpret and manage dysrhythmias; titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips; administer and monitor blood products
- Assess and manage patients with multisystem organ dysfunction and failure
- Implement IV insulin protocols, postoperative GI surgery care, and complex wound/drain/wound vac management
- Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams: Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, Radiology, Social Services, and more
- Maintain strict infection prevention and isolation precautions for patient and staff safety
- Float to other units as needed within scope of practice to support staffing and patient care
