Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1800–$1890 (competitive travel nurse pay)
- Location: Roanoke, VA (24014) — Virginia travel nurse opportunity
- Setting: Hospitalist PCU (Progressive Care Unit) with primary Pulmonary/GI focus — stepdown/intermediate care
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks (4/20/2026 – 7/20/2026)
- Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 – 07:15), 3 shifts per week — Night Shift RN role
- Hours per Week: 36
- Patient Ratio: 1:5 (PCU nurse staffing)
- Orientation: 32 hours
- Weekend Coverage: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- Holiday Requirement: Must work at least 1 holiday during the 13-week contract
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (Virginia or Compact State) — Registered Nurse credential required
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in PCU / DOU / IMC / Stepdown or similar progressive care settings
- Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Epic electronic charting experience required (Epic EMR)
- Proven skills in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and emergency response
- Competence in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
- Medication administration including cardiac drips (no titration)
- Respiratory support experience: nasal cannula, oxygen administration, non-invasive airway management
- Ability to float within skillset to other PCU or Medical-Surgical units as needed
- COVID-19 and seasonal flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions only)
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Monitor and manage patients with pulmonary and gastrointestinal (GI) diagnoses
- Interpret and manage cardiac rhythms; respond to code and rapid response situations
- Administer medications, IV therapies, and blood products safely and accurately
- Provide respiratory support and manage non-invasive airway interventions
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Pharmacy, and Rapid Response teams
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation using Epic EMR
- Adhere to isolation precautions, infection control, and PPE protocols
- Float to other PCU or Medical-Surgical units as required by patient census
