  • Location: Roanoke, VA (24014) — Virginia travel nurse opportunity
  • Setting: Hospitalist PCU (Progressive Care Unit) with primary Pulmonary/GI focus — stepdown/intermediate care
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks (4/20/2026 – 7/20/2026)
  • Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 – 07:15), 3 shifts per week — Night Shift RN role
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5 (PCU nurse staffing)
  • Orientation: 32 hours
  • Weekend Coverage: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work at least 1 holiday during the 13-week contract

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license (Virginia or Compact State) — Registered Nurse credential required
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience in PCU / DOU / IMC / Stepdown or similar progressive care settings
  • Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
  • Epic electronic charting experience required (Epic EMR)
  • Proven skills in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and emergency response
  • Competence in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Medication administration including cardiac drips (no titration)
  • Respiratory support experience: nasal cannula, oxygen administration, non-invasive airway management
  • Ability to float within skillset to other PCU or Medical-Surgical units as needed
  • COVID-19 and seasonal flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Monitor and manage patients with pulmonary and gastrointestinal (GI) diagnoses
  • Interpret and manage cardiac rhythms; respond to code and rapid response situations
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, and blood products safely and accurately
  • Provide respiratory support and manage non-invasive airway interventions
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Pharmacy, and Rapid Response teams
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation using Epic EMR
  • Adhere to isolation precautions, infection control, and PPE protocols
  • Float to other PCU or Medical-Surgical units as required by patient census
