- Hours: 40 hours per week
- Shift: 8-hour day shifts (rotating start times 6am–11am start); occasional weekends & holidays
- Employment Type: Travel assignment, on-site (hospital laboratory / blood bank)
Qualifications / Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum 1 year prior phlebotomy experience preferred; experience in hospital blood bank, donor center, or clinical laboratory strongly preferred
- National certification or completion of an accredited phlebotomy program preferred
- For Donor Care Specialist II: Current Donor Phlebotomy Technician (DPT, ASCP) or Qualification in Donor Phlebotomy QDP (ASCP) required and must be maintained
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate in English; strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently, under pressure, and maintain high quality and accuracy in a fast-paced medical lab environment
- Proficiency with computers/laptops and electronic data entry; familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) a plus
- Working knowledge of blood groups, Rh types, and donation procedures preferred
Primary Responsibilities
- Recruit, organize, and draw blood donors to meet hospital and blood bank needs; support donor recruitment efforts
- Perform donor screening to ensure eligibility following CCHC, CDC, FDA, AABB, and CAP standards
- Conduct all aspects of whole blood collections and therapeutic phlebotomy procedures in the donor center and at offsite blood drives
- Obtain appropriate blood specimens from donors and patients; ensure proper labeling and specimen handling for testing
- Prepare and label blood components and samples for testing and processing in the clinical laboratory
- Document donor records, donor deferrals, and data entry accurately; adhere to quality control and recordkeeping standards
- Maintain daily inventory and replenishment of donor care supplies; assist with logistical needs at blood drives
- Keep testing areas, workbenches, and donor center clean, sanitary, and safe; follow hospital policies, fire and disaster plans
- Provide service excellence to patients, donors, families, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers in a customer-focused healthcare setting
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the laboratory and donor center operations
