Job Details
- Position: Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) / Telemetry RN / PCU Nurse
- Contract Type: Travel nurse contract (13 weeks)
- Dates: May 6, 2026 – August 5, 2026
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,680 – $1,770
- Location: Birmingham, AL 35211 (Birmingham nursing jobs, Alabama travel nurse)
- Shift: Nights – 3x12 (18:30 – 07:00); every other weekend required
- Hours per Week: 36
- Unit: 3 West Cardiac PCU (42 beds) – Progressive Care Unit / Cardiac Stepdown
- Patient Ratio: 1:4–1:5
- EMR: EPIC (experience with EPIC preferred)
- Dress Code: Navy Blue Scrubs
Job Requirements
- Minimum 1 year recent experience in cardiac stepdown, telemetry, or PCU nursing (2+ years preferred)
- Active RN license (compact license accepted where applicable)
- ACLS and BLS required; NIH certification required
- Familiarity with telemetry monitoring, cardiac rhythms, and hemodynamic assessment
- Ability to float within scope to units within a 25-mile radius
- Strong communication, teamwork, and patient advocacy skills
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care for cardiac stepdown and telemetry patients in a fast-paced PCU environment
- Monitor cardiac rhythms, assess changes in condition, and intervene per unit protocols
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (cardiology, respiratory therapy, case management) to develop and implement patient-centered care plans
- Administer medications, manage telemetry leads, and perform cardiac assessments
- Accurately document patient care, assessments, and interventions using EPIC EMR
- Maintain patient safety, follow facility policies, and support quality improvement initiatives
- Float to other units within scope as needed to support staffing and patient care
