• Shift: 3x12-hour night shifts (19:00 – 07:00), every third weekend required
• Hours per Week: 36
• Setting: Critical Access Hospital — Labor & Delivery Unit (maternal-newborn, obstetrics)

Labor & Delivery Nurse Job Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery RN experience; travel nursing experience required
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Active Kansas (KS) or compact RN license (must be in hand at submission)
• Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NRP
• Experience with Centricity EMR / EHR preferred
• COVID-19 vaccination required (no exemptions)

L&D Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive maternal-newborn care including high-risk and vaginal deliveries, C-sections, and postpartum management
• Perform triage and assessment of obstetrical patients, sterile speculum exams, NSTs, reflex checks, and sterile vaginal exams
• Use external and internal fetal monitoring, place and calibrate IUPCs, and recognize/treat abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Administer medications and blood products safely (antihypertensives, magnesium sulfate, Pitocin, prostaglandins, terbutaline)
• Start and maintain IVs, manage infusion pumps/drips, and perform venous blood draws
• Assist with forceps/vacuum extraction, hemorrhage and shock management, and perioperative recovery for C-section patients
• Perform newborn assessments: APGAR scoring, cord care, metabolic screens, phototherapy management, and stabilization for transfer when needed
• Provide patient education and discharge teaching including breastfeeding/lactation support and circumcision care instructions
• Float to other units as needed to support hospital staffing and continuity of care
