Join our behavioral health team as a Psychiatric Registered Nurse (Psychiatric RN) in the Emergency Room. This 13-week travel nurse assignment in Rochester, NY (14642) offers hands-on psychiatric emergency care in a busy Level 1 ER. Ideal for RNs with strong psychiatric nursing skills, crisis intervention experience, and excellent assessment and documentation abilities.

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,750 - $1,840 (competitive travel nurse pay)
• Location: Rochester, NY 14642 — New York nursing jobs, Rochester healthcare
• Setting: Level 1 Psychiatric Emergency Room / Behavioral Health ER
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks (April 27, 2026 – July 25, 2026)
• Shift: Straight Nights, 3 x 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours/week)
• Employment Type: Travel, On-Site — Travel nurse assignment

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in New York State (required)
• BLS Certification (American Heart Association)
• Minimum 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience in emergency or acute behavioral health settings
• Strong mental health assessment, crisis intervention, communication, and documentation skills

Key Responsibilities

• Perform psychiatric intake assessments, including interviews with patients and family to gather behavioral health history and presenting concerns
• Triage and deliver nursing care for psychiatric patients in the ER, prioritizing safety and rapid stabilization
• Make nursing diagnoses related to medical and emotional status and recommend appropriate treatment or disposition
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and behavioral health staff to develop and implement treatment plans
• Administer and monitor psychotropic medications and other treatments; observe and document medication effects and adverse reactions
• Coordinate referrals and arrange further medical or psychiatric evaluation as needed
• Provide patient and family education to support understanding of mental health conditions and treatment options
• Maintain a safe, secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff; apply de-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques
• Document care, pain assessment, vital signs, treatments, immunizations, and lab results accurately in the medical record
• Complete administrative tasks such as progress notes, phone triage, and other required documentation in a timely manner
• Deliver courteous, high-quality patient care consistent with behavioral health best practices and hospital policies
