- Location: Schenectady, NY 12308 — Travel RN job in New York
- Setting: CVICU (Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit) – 36 beds (24 ICU, 12 IMC)
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks (April 27, 2026 – July 25, 2026)
- Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00pm – 7:30am, 30-minute unpaid break) — Night Shift, Critical Care RN
- Hours per Week: 36
- Schedule: Every other weekend required; holidays as needed; no call
- Employment Type: Travel / Contract — CVICU travel nurse position
Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of registered nursing experience, with at least 1 year in CVICU, Cardiac ICU, or cardiac surgery specialty
- Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license required at time of submission (NYS RN)
- BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or American Red Cross; can obtain prior to start date)
- Clinical experience with cardiac surgery patients (CABG, valve procedures), Swan-Ganz (Swan) catheter monitoring, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), hemodynamic monitoring, and mechanical ventilation
- Prior travel nurse experience preferred but not required
- Recent Nursys verification and current compliance documentation
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to critically ill adults in the CVICU, including post-op cardiac surgery and hemodynamically unstable patients
- Manage hemodynamic monitoring, titration of vasoactive drips, and mechanical ventilation
- Caring for vascular, thoracic, and cardiac surgery patients transitioning directly from OR to ICU
- Perform advanced cardiac monitoring (Swan-Ganz) and support patients with IABP and other mechanical circulatory support
- Float to Stepdown and/or Med-Surg units as needed based on facility needs
- Maintain appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios (1:1–1:2) based on acuity and unit policy
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a centralized ICU close to radiology, operating rooms, and the cardiac catheterization lab
- Adhere to facility policies on scheduling, professional attire, and compliance documentation
