Job Details
- Job Title: Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) / Travel Oncology RN
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,000 - $2,100
- Location: Springfield, IL 62781 (Springfield, Illinois; Central Illinois nursing jobs)
- Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (April 27, 2026 – July 27, 2026)
- Shift: 12 Hour Days (07:15 – 18:45); 3x12 or 4x12 per week
- Hours per Week: 36
- Unit: Oncology (24 beds, average daily census: 24)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Guaranteed Hours: Up to 36 hours may be called off per contract
- Charting / EMR: Cerner (Cerner experience preferred)
- Parking: Free with permit
Qualifications / Job Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of recent inpatient oncology RN experience (oncology nursing, chemotherapy administration)
- Active Illinois RN license (in hand or in application process) — Illinois nursing jobs and travel nurse applicants welcome
- BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross only)
- Chemo certification preferred (oncology chemo competency)
- Experience with Cerner charting system preferred (Cerner EMR)
- Experience in acute care, trauma Level I/II, and community hospital settings preferred
- Ability to float within hospital or to affiliate hospitals as needed
- Must be able to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- First-time travelers accepted — travel nursing candidates encouraged to apply
Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based care to adult and geriatric oncology patients
- Administer chemotherapy and manage post-chemotherapy body fluids following safety protocols
- Monitor chemotherapy infusions, IV push administration, and oral chemotherapy therapy
- Recognize and communicate abnormal lab values and changes in clinical status to the interdisciplinary team
- Manage cytotoxic spills and ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials
- Perform IV therapy and infusion tasks: accessing ports, central line and PICC line care, blood product administration
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, side effect management, and available support resources
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and social services
- Float to other units within scope as needed to meet facility needs
