Travel Sterile Processing Technician Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,030 – $1,100
- Location: Washington, DC 20007 (Georgetown area)
- Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (May 4, 2026 – August 3, 2026)
- Position Type: Travel / Contract – Hospital Sterile Processing (Central Sterile, SPD)
- Shift: 5 x 8-hour evening shifts (2:00 PM – 10:30 PM)
- Orientation: 36 hours (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
- Hours per Week: 40
- On Call/Weekend Requirement: None
- Floating Requirement: None
Sterile Processing Technician Requirements
- DC Sterile Processing Technician license (must be in hand at time of submission)
- IAHCSMM or HSPA certification required
- CRCST (HSPA) or CBSPD certification
- Minimum 3 years sterile processing (SPD/Central Sterile) experience, including chemical decontamination, handling disinfectants, HLD processes, labeling, aseptic technique, sterilization wrapping, and VPRO operation
- Completion of at least one prior travel assignment (travel sterile processing jobs preferred)
- Previous charge experience required
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
- Two supervisor references required
Key Responsibilities (Sterile Processing / Central Sterile)
- Perform cleaning and decontamination of medical equipment including crash carts, IV pumps, and PCA pumps
- Assemble, organize, and label surgical sets/trays; select proper wrapping materials and perform sterilization wrapping procedures
- Operate and monitor washers and sterilizers (steam and Sterrad), including VPRO processing
- Conduct sterilizer monitoring and testing to ensure compliance with hospital and regulatory sterilization standards
- Maintain aseptic technique and high-level disinfection (HLD) standards in Central Sterile
- Document equipment and tray processing accurately and maintain SPD records
- Support a wide range of surgical specialties: Bariatrics, Cardiac, ENT, General, Laparoscopic, Neurology, OB/GYN, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Plastics, Podiatry, Robotics, Transplant, Urology, Dental, and Vascular
- Participate in orientation and complete facility-specific modules within one week of contract start
