Job Details

  • Position: Cardiothoracic ICU Registered Nurse (CTICU RN / Cardiac ICU RN / Travel RN)
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1910 - $2010
  • Location: Chesapeake, VA 23320 (Coastal Virginia; near Virginia Beach & Norfolk)
  • Setting: Cardio Thoracic ICU (CTICU), Universal Bed Model
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks (possible extension)
  • Start Date: April 27, 2026
  • Shift: 12-hour days (07:00 - 19:30); weekdays, every other weekend, float, holidays within contract
  • Hours per Week: 36 (option for 48-hour contract with OT after 48 hours)
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1-2
  • Unit Size: 8 beds

Qualifications / Job Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU/CTICU or Cardiac ICU experience (post-op CABG, VAD, valve surgery preferred)
  • Travel nursing experience preferred; open to experienced travel RNs
  • Valid Virginia RN license or Compact RN license in hand at time of application (no exceptions)
  • Current BLS and ACLS (American Heart Association); NIHSS certification required
  • EPIC charting proficiency required
  • Strong neuro experience (post brain surgery, EVD/ventriculostomy) a plus
  • No prior license or background hits; facility will not consider candidates with any history of hits
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from facility
  • Successful completion of EKG testing (80% or higher required)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert critical care for post-operative CABG, acute coronary syndromes (NSTEMI/STEMI), CHF, and stepdown patients in a universal bed model
  • Manage arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, and safe blood product administration
  • Administer and titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips (inotropes, vasopressors)
  • Monitor and interpret dysrhythmias, ABGs; manage multi-system organ failure as a critical care nurse
  • Care for ventilated patients; manage BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, and ventilator settings
  • Assist with procedural sedation, IV insulin protocols, and infection prevention practices
  • Utilize specialized equipment including Hemosphere, Quantum, and Accuryn
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams: IV, PT, RT, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
  • Float as needed and provide coverage during holidays and weekends as part of travel nursing expectations
