This 13-week Labor & Delivery travel RN assignment (April 27, 2026 – July 27, 2026) offers hands-on experience in a 24-bed unit with 2 ORs, supporting labor, delivery, and postpartum care. Ideal for experienced L&D RNs and maternity nurses who have completed recent travel assignments and want to work in central Iowa’s welcoming community (zip 50266).

Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,360 – $2,480 (travel nursing pay)
• Location: West Des Moines, IA (50266) — West Des Moines healthcare jobs, Iowa nursing jobs
• Setting: Maternity Unit – Labor & Delivery (L&D), Mother-Baby couplets
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks (April 27, 2026 – July 27, 2026)
• Shift: Nights 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 3x12-hour shifts/week (36 hours/week)
• Weekend/Holiday: Every 3rd weekend; holiday rotation if scheduled
• Call: None
• Floating: May float to Mother-Baby or other L&D units across campuses
• Bed Size: 24 beds, 2 ORs
• Patient Ratios: 1:3-4 couplets
• Scrubs: Hospital provided

Job Requirements / Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year recent Labor & Delivery RN (L&D) experience — experience with triage, vaginal and C-section deliveries
• Postpartum / Mother-Baby nursing experience required (maternity nurse, couplet care)
• At least one travel assignment completed in the last 12 months (no first-time travelers)
• 24 months of current Med-Surg / Medical Surgical / Med-Surg Tele experience required (skills checklist may be requested)
• Active Iowa RN license or multistate/compact RN license accepted
• Certifications: BLS (AHA or ARC), ACLS (AHA), NRP, AWHONN
• Skills checklist specific to Med-Surg/Medical Surgical/Med-Surg Tele
• Valid Driver’s License
• Professional reference from charge/supervisor/nurse manager/director/CNO/COO within the last 24 months preferred

Responsibilities (Labor & Delivery RN / Maternity Nurse)

• Provide comprehensive labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care for mothers and infants (L&D and Mother-Baby couplets)
• Assist with vaginal deliveries, C-sections, and triage assessments
• Administer and manage drips including magnesium sulfate, insulin, and pitocin/oxytocin
• Monitor maternal and neonatal status; respond to emergencies and escalate per protocol
• Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
• Float between Mother-Baby and L&D units across campuses as needed
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in EPIC EMR (electronic medical record)
• Participate in scheduled weekend and holiday rotations
