- Position: CVICU Registered Nurse (RN) / Cardiac ICU Nurse (Travel)
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,360 – $2,480
- Location: New Brunswick, NJ (08901) — New Jersey travel nurse opportunity
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Shift: Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts per week (19:00 – 07:30)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Employment Type: Travel, On-site (Cardiothoracic ICU / CVICU)
- Start Date: April 27, 2026
- End Date: July 27, 2026
- Patient Ratio: 1:1–2 (may vary if floated)
- Weekend/Holiday Coverage: Every other weekend and holiday required
Qualifications / Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of current CVICU or cardiac ICU experience (SICU experience may be considered with initial CVICU training)
- Active New Jersey RN license or Compact RN license required at time of submission
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS required
- Experience with mechanical circulatory support devices (Impella, IABP) and CRRT (Prismax) OR experience with fresh heart cases
- Proficiency with Epic EMR preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Ability to float to all ICUs, PACU, ED (ICU holding), and IMC units as needed
- References required for travel nurse placement
Responsibilities / Clinical Duties
- Provide comprehensive care for fresh-heart recipients, ventilated patients, chest tubes, lumbar drains, and patients with acute or chronic renal failure
- Manage post-op open heart recovery (CABG, MVR, AVR, TAVR) and support hemodynamic monitoring (Swan-Ganz, Flotrack)
- Care for temporary pacers, arterial lines, chest tubes, and advanced cardiac monitoring
- Administer and titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips, emergency medications, and IV sedation
- Interpret arterial blood gases and cardiac dysrhythmias; ventilator management and weaning as appropriate
- Perform arterial line management, central line care, and assist with chest tube insertion/removal
- Float to other units within skillset based on patient acuity and unit needs
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Radiology, Social Services, Pharmacy, and Rapid Response Teams
- Maintain infection prevention practices and isolation precautions consistent with ICU standards
