Travel PICU Registered Nurse (RN) needed in Tacoma, WA — 13-week contract at a Level II Trauma Center. Join a pediatric critical care team providing high-acuity care in a modern 16-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in the Pacific Northwest. Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,020 – $2,130
- Location: Tacoma, WA (98405) — Pacific Northwest / Seattle metro area
- Setting: Level II Trauma Center, 16-bed PICU (pediatric intensive care)
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 5/4/2026 – End: 8/1/2026)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Shift: 12-hour days (0700-1900), every other weekend rotation
- EMR: Epic preferred (Epic EMR experience a plus)
- Scrubs: Any color (no hooded shirts; long sleeves must be able to pull above elbow)
- Employment Type: Travel nurse / Travel Registered Nurse (RN)
Qualifications / Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) RN experience — pediatric critical care nursing required
- Active Registered Nurse license: Washington state or compact RN license
- Current BLS and PALS certifications required
- Competency with ventilator and trach management, suctioning, feeding tube (g-/j-tube) management, chest tubes, epidurals, PCA and drip management
- Experience with aseptic/sterile technique, basic dressing changes, Foley insertion/management and discharge skills
- CRRT experience with Prismax preferred; CICU experience preferred
- Epic EMR experience preferred — experience with major hospital EMRs is helpful
- First-time travel nurses considered — open to PICU RNs seeking travel nursing jobs in Washington
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to pediatric patients across respiratory, medical, trauma, cardiovascular, and surgical diagnoses
- Manage high-acuity cases including congenital heart defects, oncology/Chemo patients, RSV, asthma, COVID/MIS-C, new onset diabetes, and trauma (falls, MVAs)
- Perform advanced critical care nursing skills: ventilator and trach management, CRRT (if experienced), chest tube care, feeding tube management, epidural/PCA management
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (physicians, RTs, pharmacists, social work) to support optimal patient outcomes in the pediatric ICU
- Float to MedSurg or ED as Helping Hands or Constant Observer when needed to support hospital operations
- Participate in every other weekend rotation and adapt to a flexible scheduling environment common in travel nursing roles
