- Position: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Med/Surg, Urology & Nephrology
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,890 – $1,990
- Location: Springfield, IL (62781) — local travel nurse opportunity, Illinois travel nurse jobs
- Setting: Acute Care Hospital – Level I Trauma Center, Magnet facility (acute care nurse role)
- Unit: Urology/Nephrology – 25 beds (avg. daily census: 23)
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Start Date: April 27, 2026
- Shift: Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts (06:45 – 19:15)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Scrub Color: Any solid color
- Parking: Free with permit
Job Requirements / Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years recent Med/Surg RN experience (including MS/Tele) — required for travel nursing jobs and Med/Surg RN roles
- Active Illinois RN license (required at submission)
- BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross only)
- Experience with Cerner EMR/charting system
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Telemetry and cardiac monitoring competency
- Pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care experience
- IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration skills
- Respiratory interventions: CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, chest tube management, oral suctioning
- Isolation precautions, wound care, and wound VAC experience
- Ability to float to other Med/Surg units as needed
- Must complete all facility compliance requirements and mandatory modules on time
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive Med/Surg nursing care for adult patients with urology and nephrology diagnoses, including kidney transplants, renal failure, and complex surgical cases
- Manage pre- and post-operative care, continuous bladder irrigation, and difficult urinary catheter insertions
- Administer medications (including Heparin), blood products, and manage central/peripheral IV lines
- Monitor telemetry and cardiac rhythms; respond to rapid response and code teams
- Perform respiratory interventions: CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, chest tube care, oral suctioning
- Implement isolation precautions and wound care protocols, including wound VAC management
- Document nursing care accurately in Cerner EMR and maintain clear interdisciplinary communication
- Collaborate with IV team, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, social services, and case management
- Float to other Med/Surg units as needed to support patient volume and staffing
- Participate in patient education, discharge planning, and readmission prevention strategies
