- Assignment Type: Travel Contract (13 weeks)
- Location: Washington, DC 20010 — Washington, DC sterile processing jobs / DC travel sterile processing tech
- Setting: Acute Care Hospital (Central Sterile / SPD)
- Shift: Evening, 5x8-hour shifts (15:00 – 23:30), rotating weekends and holidays as needed
- Weekly Hours: 40
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,030 – $1,100
- Start Date: May 11, 2026
- End Date: August 10, 2026
- Flu Vaccine: Required (no exemptions)
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years recent experience as a Sterile Processing Tech / Sterile Processing Technician in an acute care hospital or SPD
- IAHCSMM or HSPA Certification required
- Active DC license required at time of submission
- At least one prior travel assignment required (travel sterile processing jobs experience preferred)
- Two (2) supervisor references required
Preferred Skills & Clinical Experience
- Experience with decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and case cart/tray assembly
- Processing specialty instrumentation for Bariatric, Cardiac, Dental, ENT, General Surgery, Laparoscopic, Neurology, OB/GYN, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Plastics, Podiatry, Robotics, Transplant, Urology, and Vascular cases
- Endoscope and flexible endoscope reprocessing experience preferred
- Proficient in aseptic technique, sterile wrap selection, sterilizer operation (steam, EO), and instrument tracking systems (e.g., Sterile Processing Microsystem / SPM)
- Familiarity with infection prevention standards, SPD policies, and regulatory compliance
Responsibilities
- Perform decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment following SPD policies and infection control protocols
- Assemble and organize instrument trays and case carts per preference cards and proper labeling procedures
- Process specialty equipment and complex instrumentation across multiple surgical specialties
- Document equipment processing and maintain accurate records using Sterile Processing Microsystem (SPM) or equivalent instrument tracking systems
- Ensure correct selection of wrapping materials and adherence to sterilization wrapping procedures
- Maintain SPD cleanliness, equipment maintenance, and supply inventory to support surgical services
- Participate in rotating weekend and holiday coverage as scheduled
