ICU Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Contract in Chesapeake, VA. 13-week travel nursing role for experienced critical care RNs. VA/Compact RN license, ACLS/BLS, EPIC proficiency required.

Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,800 – $1,890 (competitive travel nursing pay)
- Location: Chesapeake, VA 23320 (Hampton Roads / Coastal Virginia)
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks (Travel Nursing Assignment)
- Shift: 12-hour days (07:00 – 19:30), weekdays, every other weekend, float, holidays within contract
- Hours per Week: 36 or 48 (option for 3x12 or 4x12 shifts per week; candidates may indicate their preference for either a 36-hour or 48-hour contract)
- Start Date: April 27, 2026
- End Date: July 27, 2026
- Employment Type: Travel (Travel ICU RN / Critical Care Nurse)
Job Requirements / Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year ICU RN experience required; 3 years critical care experience preferred. Strong neuro ICU experience required (post-neurosurgical, EVD, stroke)
- VA or Compact RN license in hand at time of application — no exceptions
- BLS and ACLS certifications (American Heart Association)
- NIHSS certification
- EPIC charting proficiency required — no exceptions
- Successful completion of EKG testing (80% or higher required; no remediation)
- Must be willing to float to Stepdown Unit, ED, or MedSurg to care for ICU patients being held
- No prior license or background hits; facility will not consider candidates with any history
- Must reside at least 50 miles from facility (local candidates not accepted)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality critical care nursing for ICU patients, including neurosurgical, post-stroke, respiratory failure, renal failure, post-surgical, trauma, sepsis/MODS, heart failure, and post-cardiac cath populations
- Manage ventilators, perform ventilator and BiPAP/CPAP management, and titrate IV drips
- Telemetry monitoring, interpret dysrhythmias, and respond to emergencies
- Arterial line management, chest tube assistance, central line care, CVP monitoring, and blood product administration
- Support conscious sedation procedures and provide critical care assessments and interventions
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy, pharmacy, IV team, physical therapy, and rapid response
- Float to Stepdown, ED, or MedSurg units as needed while maintaining ICU patient care standards
- Maintain patient ratios of 1:2–3
