  • Location: Petersburg, Virginia (23805) — travel nursing job in Virginia, easy access to Richmond and the James River; ideal for ER travel nurses looking for short-term contracts
  • Assignment Type: Travel (Travel Nurse / Travel Registered Nurse)
  • Setting: Emergency Department (32 beds, 5 recliner chairs; can flex up to 10 hallway beds) — high-acuity trauma center environment
  • Duration: 13 weeks (short-term contract)
  • Start Date: April 20, 2026
  • Shift: 12-hour days, 36 hours per week; every other weekend and one major holiday required
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910 – $2,010
  • Candidate Note: No local candidates — must reside outside a 50-mile radius (targeting travel nurses)

Job Requirements

  • Active RN license in Virginia or compact state (Compact Nursing License accepted)
  • Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience; Emergency Department (ER) or Critical Care (ICU) experience strongly preferred
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC
  • CPI De-escalation Training required
  • Must pass EKG exam at orientation (study guide provided)
  • EPIC EMR proficiency within the last year strongly preferred (EPIC experience for travel nurses is a plus)
  • Copy of nursing diploma required

Key Responsibilities (Emergency Department / ER RN)

  • Provide, coordinate, and evaluate nursing care for patients of all ages in a high-volume Emergency Department and trauma center
  • Perform triage, initial and ongoing patient assessments, develop and implement care plans, and evaluate treatment effectiveness
  • Administer medications and treatments safely and in accordance with hospital policies and nursing best practices
  • Respond to a wide range of emergencies including trauma, stroke, STEMI, behavioral health crises, and mass casualty events
  • Use advanced clinical equipment (Alaris pumps, Panda warmers, Hamilton ventilators, Autopulse, GlideScope, etc.) and follow critical care protocols
  • Coordinate patient care across departments; serve as a point of contact for interdisciplinary teams, law enforcement, and outside agencies as needed
  • Act as a patient safety advocate, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and support safe, evidence-based care
  • Support, supervise, and mentor licensed and unlicensed staff within the department
