Job Requirements / Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Surgical First Assistant experience required (perioperative and First Assist experience)
• CSA or CSFA certification required prior to submission
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology / Surgical Assistant program
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
• Licensed or able to be licensed with the Virginia Board of Medicine; additional credentialing may be required per Virginia regulations
• Prior travel healthcare experience strongly preferred
• Comfortable assisting with robotics (Da Vinci), spine, orthopedic, laparoscopic, general, GYN, urology, and vascular procedures

Core Responsibilities

• Serve as First Assist during surgical procedures: patient positioning, maintaining exposure, holding retraction, suturing assistance, dressing application, and skin closure
• Set up and prepare the operating room with necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment prior to case start
• Maintain strict sterile technique and support efficient room turnover and restocking to optimize OR flow
• Operate and assist with Da Vinci robotic systems and other specialty surgical equipment as required
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, charge nurse, anesthesiology, and perioperative team members as a clinical resource for procedures
• Maintain professional certification and ongoing competency as a surgical assistant
• Provide compassionate care to a diverse patient population across all ages
