Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN) – Nights – Travel Nurse Assignment – Petersburg, VA

Emergency Room RN (Night Travel Nurse) — 13-week trauma-capable ED assignment in Petersburg, VA 23805. Join our team and make an immediate impact in a high-acuity Emergency Department as an ER RN.

Travel Nurse Job Details

  • Assignment Type: Travel Nurse (Emergency Department RN)
  • Location: Petersburg, VA 23805 (Petersburg, Virginia)
  • Setting: Emergency Department – 32 beds, 5 recliner chairs, can flex up to 10 hallway beds (trauma-capable ED)
  • Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 4/20/2026 – End: 7/18/2026)
  • Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00pm – 7:30am) — ER RN Night Shift
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Schedule: Every other weekend and one major holiday required
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,910 – $2,010 (competitive travel nursing pay)

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Active RN license in Virginia or compact state (Virginia RN license required if not compact)
  • At least 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) RN experience required — experience in large ED/trauma centers strongly preferred
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC
  • CPI De-escalation Training required
  • Must pass EKG exam at orientation (study guide provided)
  • EPIC proficiency within the last year strongly preferred
  • Copy of nursing diploma required
  • No local candidates — must reside outside a 50-mile radius

Emergency Department RN Responsibilities

  • Provide, coordinate, and evaluate nursing care for patients of all ages and medical complaints in a fast-paced, high-intensity ED
  • Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments, develop and implement care plans, and evaluate treatment effectiveness
  • Administer medications safely and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures
  • Serve as a point of contact for patient care coordination across hospital departments and with outside agencies (EMS, law enforcement, transfer centers)
  • Act as a patient safety advocate and participate in quality improvement initiatives
  • Utilize and maintain proficiency with ED equipment such as Alaris pumps, Panda warmers, Hamilton ventilators, Autopulse, GlideScope, AmbuScope, ultrasound, EKG machine, bladder scanner, cast cutter, Philips monitoring, and Omnicell
  • Manage the physical and emotional demands of emergency nursing, including trauma care, behavioral holds, and mass casualty situations
  • Maintain professionalism, resilience, and effective communication in high-stress situations; collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
