Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,240 – $1,330
- Location: On-site in Hyannis, MA (Cape Cod) – 02601
- Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (May 11, 2026 – August 8, 2026)
- Hours: 40 hours per week
- Shift: 8-hour day shifts (4:30am–12:30pm, 5:00am–1:00pm, or 5:30am–1:30pm), Monday–Friday; occasional weekends and holidays
- Employment Type: Travel / Contract – Travel Laboratory Technician, Clinical Lab, Pathology Department
Job Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience in lab test ordering, phlebotomy, or clinical/administrative lab support (Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Technician experience preferred)
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or higher in a health science–related field preferred
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
- Proficiency with computer systems and laboratory information systems (EPIC experience preferred)
- Successful passage of Medical Terminology Exam
- Successful passage of Dangerous Goods exam within 30 days of start
- Typing speed of at least 30 WPM (CCHC Typing Test)
- Strong multitasking, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills for high-volume clinical lab work
Key Responsibilities
- Support efficient operation of the hospital Pathology Department through technical and administrative laboratory duties
- Perform specimen processing, accessioning, data entry, report coordination, and clerical support for technical and medical staff
- Rotate among assignments including specimen receiving, accessioning, and work list review to support pathology and cytology workflows
- Provide secretarial services: register requisitions, operate computers, answer telephones, type reports, scan documents, and operate label devices
- Retrieve specimens from OR and main laboratory; verify patient identifiers and specimen accuracy for clinical lab compliance
- Maintain supply locations stocked with processing and collection materials, reagents, and cytology supplies
- Process Cytology specimens, verify accuracy and special handling requirements, and track consultations/second opinions
- Prepare and assemble slides for conferences and reports, return materials for permanent storage, and maintain slide/block filing
- Prepare specimens and documentation for shipment to other hospitals and reference labs, following Dangerous Goods guidelines
- Maintain work benches, specimen refrigerators, stain lines, formalin containers, cryostat, and other clinical lab equipment; perform daily QC checks
- Handle return mail tasks including unpacking slides/blocks, scanning reports, and updating pathology/cytology case files
- Consistently provide service excellence to donors, patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned in a fast-paced hospital laboratory setting
