Key Responsibilities (Cardiac Stepdown / Cardiology RN)

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care in a high-volume cardiology clinic, including cardiovascular assessments and triage for acute and chronic cardiac conditions.
  • Manage patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs): pacemakers, ICDs, CRTs—perform in-clinic and remote device interrogations.
  • Evaluate device status: battery life, lead integrity, and arrhythmia events; document findings and escalate per clinic protocols.
  • Collaborate with cardiologists and electrophysiology teams to optimize device programming and patient care plans.
  • Assist with pre- and post-procedure care for device implantation: patient prep, wound assessment, complication monitoring, and discharge education.
  • Administer and manage cardiac medications, monitor effects, and educate patients on adherence and side effects.
  • Deliver patient and family education on cardiovascular disease management, device function, activity restrictions, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, telemetry standards, safety policies, and regulatory requirements in both in-person and remote monitoring workflows.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Active Vermont RN license or Compact RN license required (Vermont nursing license)
  • Minimum 1 year recent RN experience in a cardiac or stepdown setting; 3+ years outpatient cardiology experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with device management and remote monitoring (pacemaker, ICD, CRT) highly preferred
  • Acute care experience and telemetry experience highly preferred
  • Travel nursing experience preferred (travel nurse / travel RN)
  • Active American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required; ACLS preferred where applicable
  • Resume with detailed departmental experience required
  • Recent cardiac skills checklist (within the past year) required
  • Two supervisory references from the last two years of employment required
