Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,110 – $1,190 (competitive travel surgical tech pay)
• Assignment Length: 17 weeks (no extensions per union rule)
• Position: Travel Surgical Technologist / Sterile Processing Technician (CSP)
• Shift: Mid shift, 5x8-hour evenings (15:00 – 23:30)
• Hours per Week: 40
• Location: Chicago, IL 60637 – Hyde Park (near Lake Michigan and downtown Chicago)
• Rotating Weekends: Every other weekend
• Holidays: As assigned
• Orientation: First week, 07:00 – 15:30

Job Requirements / Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in sterile processing or surgical technology (CSPD / surgical tech roles)
• National certification in Sterile Processing required (e.g., CRCST or CBSPD preferred)
• Proven ability to meet productivity requirements (process ~800 instruments per shift)
• Hands-on experience with decontamination, instrument cleaning, sterile tray assembly, and sterilization processes
• Knowledge of infection prevention, sterilization standards, and hospital CSPD protocols
• Ability to work rotating weekends and assigned holidays
• Legal first and last name required for submission
• Locals accepted at same rate; return travelers to this unit not permitted per union rule
• No license hits allowed

Key Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and package surgical trays and instruments to hospital and CSPD standards
• Operate sterilization equipment (steam autoclave, high-level disinfectors) and document sterilization cycles
• Meet productivity goals by processing a mix of small and large trays to achieve the required instrument count per shift
• Maintain strict adherence to infection control, patient safety, and sterile processing policies
• Collaborate with OR, surgical, and nursing teams to ensure timely delivery of sterile instruments for procedures
• Participate in orientation, complete required onboarding modules, and follow unit-specific workflows
