  • Shift: Night shifts, 12 hours (19:00 – 07:30); every other weekend required — night shift PICU RN
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Patient Age Groups: Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents
  • Unit: Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) — pediatric ICU RN, critical care nurse
  • Daily Census: 20 beds
  • Orientation: Bi-weekly, 36 hours

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of recent PICU RN experience (pediatric critical care experience preferred)
  • Active North Carolina (NC) or Compact RN license in hand
  • BLS and PALS certifications required
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record (EHR) preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Experience in Trauma Level I or II, LTAC, and community hospital settings preferred
  • Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
  • First-time travelers and local candidates (within 75 miles) welcome
  • One supervisory reference within the last year required

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive pediatric critical care nursing for patients with complex congenital heart conditions
  • Manage and monitor patients on advanced life support and mechanical devices including VADs, ECMO, CRRT, and ventilators
  • Administer medications, blood products, and chemotherapy as needed following unit protocols
  • Perform and assist with specialized procedures such as intubation, lumbar puncture, and arterial line management
  • Monitor and interpret arterial blood gases, cardiac dysrhythmias, and hemodynamic parameters
  • Maintain infection control and isolation precautions in accordance with hospital policy
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy, IV therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, and social services
  • Participate in float assignments to other units and rapid response teams as needed
  • Document patient care accurately and efficiently using Epic electronic charting
