- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,130 – $2,250
- Location: Durham, North Carolina (zip 27710) — travel nursing jobs in North Carolina / NC nursing jobs
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Start Date: May 4, 2026 (targeted; alternate start May 18, 2026)
- Shift: Night shifts, 12 hours (19:00 – 07:30); every other weekend required — night shift PICU RN
- Hours per Week: 36
- Patient Age Groups: Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents
- Unit: Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) — pediatric ICU RN, critical care nurse
- Daily Census: 20 beds
- Orientation: Bi-weekly, 36 hours
Job Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of recent PICU RN experience (pediatric critical care experience preferred)
- Active North Carolina (NC) or Compact RN license in hand
- BLS and PALS certifications required
- Experience with Epic electronic health record (EHR) preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Experience in Trauma Level I or II, LTAC, and community hospital settings preferred
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
- First-time travelers and local candidates (within 75 miles) welcome
- One supervisory reference within the last year required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive pediatric critical care nursing for patients with complex congenital heart conditions
- Manage and monitor patients on advanced life support and mechanical devices including VADs, ECMO, CRRT, and ventilators
- Administer medications, blood products, and chemotherapy as needed following unit protocols
- Perform and assist with specialized procedures such as intubation, lumbar puncture, and arterial line management
- Monitor and interpret arterial blood gases, cardiac dysrhythmias, and hemodynamic parameters
- Maintain infection control and isolation precautions in accordance with hospital policy
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy, IV therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, and social services
- Participate in float assignments to other units and rapid response teams as needed
- Document patient care accurately and efficiently using Epic electronic charting
