CVICU Registered Nurse (RN) – Night Shift Travel Contract in Richmond, VA. 13-week travel nurse opportunity requiring CVICU experience, ACLS/BLS, and EPIC.
Join the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) team in downtown Richmond, VA (zip code 23219) for a rewarding 13-week travel nursing contract. This travel nurse position is based at a Level I trauma and academic medical center—an ideal setting to advance your cardiothoracic critical care skills while working with a multidisciplinary team in a vibrant city.

- Setting: Cardiovascular Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU) / CVICU
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Shift: Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00 – 07:00)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
- Start Date: April 27, 2026
- End Date: July 27, 2026
Job Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of recent CVICU or CSICU experience in a Level I facility (cardiothoracic or cardiovascular critical care)
- Active RN license in Virginia or compact state (must be in hand at time of application) — Virginia RN jobs / Richmond CVICU RN
- ACLS and BLS certifications required
- EPIC charting experience required
- BSN preferred
- Strong proficiency with CRRT, IABP, ECMO, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, and care of post-op cardiothoracic surgery patients
- Experience with circulatory assist devices (HeartMate II/III LVAD, CentriMag RVAD/LVAD, HeartWare HVAD, Total Artificial Heart, Impella)
- Level I trauma and academic facility experience preferred
- Ability to float within scope if needed
- Two professional references required
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality critical care for adult and geriatric patients in a 14-bed CSICU / CVICU
- Manage post-operative cardiothoracic patients including CABG, valve repairs/replacements, aortic surgeries, VADs, total artificial hearts, and transplant recoveries
- Perform invasive hemodynamic monitoring and titration of vasoactive IV medications
- Care for patients on advanced therapies: CRRT, ECMO, Impella, IABP, LVADs and other circulatory assist devices
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including IV therapy, PT, RT, Radiology, Social Services, Pharmacy, and Rapid Response teams
- Participate in self-scheduling and provide weekend coverage as required
- Complete orientation modules and unit-based onboarding during the first week of assignment
