Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU / Neuro Stepdown Travel Contract in Durham, NC. 13-week travel nursing job (night shift) paying $1,890–$1,990/week. Join a dedicated Progressive Care Unit (PCU) team focused on neuro & spine stepdown care in Durham, North Carolina.
What You’ll Get

- Location: Durham, NC 27710 (Durham, North Carolina — Triangle area)
- Role: Registered Nurse (RN), PCU / Neuro & Spine Stepdown
- Assignment: 13-week travel contract (May 4, 2026 – August 3, 2026)
- Shift: Nights, 3x12 hours (19:00 – 07:30)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
- Orientation: Bi-weekly, 24 hours
- Scrub Colors: Royal Blue
- Flu Vaccine: Required (no exemptions)
Travel Nurse & RN Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience (neuro experience preferred; strong med-surg or surgical background accepted)
- Active NC RN license or Compact RN license in hand (Registered Nurse licensure for North Carolina)
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- EPIC electronic charting experience required
- One supervisory reference within the last year
- Ability to float to Med/Surg, Neuro, Stepdown, and PCU units
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions or declinations)
PCU / Neuro Stepdown RN Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in the Neuro & Spine Stepdown Unit (Progressive Care Unit RN duties)
- Care for patients with spinal surgery, stroke, seizure disorders, epilepsy monitoring, ALS, AMS, GB, MS, MG, encephalitis, TBI, and other neuro diagnoses
- Perform and manage procedures including lumbar drains, external ventriculostomies, EVDs, NGT insertions, vasoactive drips, heparin and insulin drips, IVIG, plex therapy, and stereotactic biopsy support
- Operate and monitor specialized equipment such as SCDs, Alaris infusion pumps, lift equipment, and participate in rapid response/code teams
- Administer blood products; manage central and peripheral lines, chest tubes, feeding tubes, and wound care
- Assess and manage dysrhythmias, seizure activity, and withdrawal syndromes
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including IV teams, physical and occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and social work
- Maintain compliance with facility and unit protocols, timely documentation, and completion of required modules
