Job Details (Travel Pathology Assistant)

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,830 - $3,040
• Position Type: Travel / Contract Pathology Assistant (13-week contract)
• Location: Acute Care Hospital, White Plains, NY (10601) — Westchester County, NY
• Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (June 15, 2026 – September 14, 2026)
• Shift: 8-hour days, Monday–Friday (9:00 am – 5:00 pm)
• Guaranteed Hours: 37.5 hours per week
• Care Setting: Acute care / clinical laboratory / histology lab
• Charting System: EPIC (Laboratory Information System workflows)

Pathology Assistant Requirements & Qualifications

• Valid New York State license required — local credentialing for travel pathology assistant roles
• B.S. in Biology or related science and certification from an accredited Pathologists' Assistant Program or equivalent
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Pathology Assistant (2 years preferred); experience in histology/grossing and frozen sections preferred
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• ASCP certification preferred (Board of Certification for Pathologists' Assistants)
• Seasonal influenza vaccine required
• Ability to pay minimum $1.26/hour for parking during assignment
• Strong attention to detail, adaptability, organizational skills, and effective communication with pathologists and lab staff

Pathology Assistant Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination and dissection of surgical pathology specimens in the clinical laboratory
• Describe gross anatomic features, dissect specimens, and prepare tissue sections for microscopic examination under pathologist supervision
• Prepare frozen and permanent sections for light microscopy and document with photography as needed
• Ensure accurate specimen accessioning, labeling, and chain-of-custody practices
• Obtain relevant case history, laboratory data, and imaging (scans/X-rays) from clinical records
• Assist in coding and organizing grossing workflows for a full range of surgical specimens
• Update and troubleshoot voice recognition templates and dictation systems used for pathology reports
• Support staining, cover slipping, and sample preparation for histology and post-mortem examinations
• Maintain gross room inventory and update the Gross Room Manual as needed
• Accurately enter required information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and EPIC charting as applicable
• Select appropriate samples for decalcification and ensure proper processing of decalcified tissues
• Demonstrate safe operation of laboratory equipment (grossing table, handsaw, cryostat) and adherence to safety protocols
• Maintain open communication with pathologists, histology techs, and laboratory leadership; perform other related duties as assigned
