Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,800 – $1,890 (competitive travel nurse pay)
- Location: Albany, GA 31701 — South Georgia oncology nursing opportunity
- Setting: Acute Care – Oncology / Medical-Surgical (29 beds)
- Start Date: April 27, 2026
- Assignment Length: 17 weeks (through August 24, 2026)
- Shift: 12-hour days (6:45am – 7:15pm), every other weekend & rotating holidays
- Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
- Scrub Color: Caribbean Blue
- Charting System: MEDITECH EMR (experience preferred)
Nurse Qualifications & Certifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- NIHSS certification preferred
- ONS certification preferred for chemotherapy administration
- Minimum 2 years of recent oncology nursing experience (hematology/oncology or medical-surgical oncology)
- Experience caring for medical-surgical patients and oncology populations, including chemotherapy and symptom management
- Must live at least 75 miles from facility (based on driver's license)
- No first-time travelers; travel nurse experience preferred
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to oncology and medical-surgical patients, including management of acute oncology symptoms, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, sickle cell crisis, hematology issues, and end-of-life care
- Administer chemotherapy and other oncology treatments per facility policy (ONS preferred)
- Manage a typical patient ratio of 1:5 (occasionally 1:6) while maintaining safe staffing and patient-centered care
- Collaborate closely with nurse aides, charge nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care
- Document all patient care and assessments using MEDITECH EMR
- Participate in unit orientation, ongoing training, and competency validation specific to oncology care
- Float to medical acute units as needed (rarely) and support unit operations during peak census
- Provide compassionate support and education to patients and families throughout the cancer care continuum
