- Position: Travel Surgical Technologist / Surgical Tech (Perioperative Technologist)
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (May 4, 2026 – August 3, 2026)
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,670 – $1,800
- Setting: Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center (Magnet-recognized)
- Shifts: 5x8-hour day shifts (06:45 – 15:15)
- Hours per Week: 40
- Weekend Requirement: One weekend per month (16 hours total)
- On-Call: As needed for department coverage
- Floating: Required within scope of practice (may float to other units/affiliate hospitals)
- Charting: Cerner
- Scrub Color / Parking: Scrub color provided; free parking permit provided
Qualifications / Job Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of recent Surgical Tech experience in a hospital operating room (OR) setting
- Travel experience required — prior travel surgical tech assignments strongly preferred
- Level I Trauma experience required; ability to manage high-acuity trauma cases
- BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross only)
- CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) certification preferred
- Neurosurgery (neuro) case experience required
- Comfortable performing a wide variety of cases including General, ENT, Endoscopic, Gynecology, Neurosurgery, Oral/Maxillofacial, Orthopedic, Plastic, Trauma, Urology, and Emergency Management
- Must be able to arrive in Illinois 3 business days prior to compliance deadline for fingerprinting
- Candidate must live more than 50 miles from the facility (per travel assignment policy)
- Ability to float within scope to meet facility needs and complete onboarding and compliance requirements on time
Responsibilities
- Assist in a variety of surgical procedures, including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion, repair of fractured jaws, arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, trauma cases, and more
- Provide perioperative support as a certified surgical technologist or experienced surgical tech in the operating room (OR)
- Demonstrate proficiency in aseptic technique, isolation precautions, radiation and sharps safety, sterile field maintenance, and specimen handling/labeling
- Operate and maintain specialized surgical equipment including robotic systems (Da Vinci Xi, Mazor, ROSA), microscopes, surgical drills, electrosurgical units, and fiber optic light sources
- Participate in emergency management, trauma response, and fire safety procedures
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (surgeons, nurses, anesthesiology, techs) to ensure optimal patient outcomes
- Float to other units or affiliate hospitals as needed within scope of practice and support perioperative workflow
- Adhere to all hospital policies, protocols, and universal protocols (time out procedures)
