Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1800 - $1890 (competitive travel nursing pay)
- Location: Hilo, HI – Big Island, Hawaii nursing jobs; ideal for travel nurses seeking Hilo, Hawaii opportunities
- Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (June 1, 2026 – August 31, 2026)
- Shift: 12-hour days (0645 to 1915), scheduled 36 hours per week following orientation
- Employment Type: Travel RN, On-Site
- Orientation: Arrive Thursday before start for employee health appointment on Friday
Job Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience in Cardiac Stepdown, Cardiac RN/Telemetry, Med-Surg, or related acute care units
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Hawaii OR eligibility to apply for a Hawaii RN license upon acceptance
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required; ACLS preferred. Additional certifications such as PALS, Procedural Sedation, TNCC, ENPC are a plus
- Experience with Meditech EMR, Pyxis, wound vacs, and chest tubes; strong documentation and electronic charting skills
- Professional nursing attire – clean scrubs required
- Proof of immunity required (medical/religious exemptions not accepted)
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care in the Cardiac Stepdown unit (Cardiac RN duties, telemetry monitoring, and post-op cardiac care)
- Float to Medical, Laulima (Surgical Acute), and Cardiovascular units as needed to support patient care
- Monitor and manage patients recovering from cardiac events and cardiac surgeries, including medication administration and hemodynamic monitoring
- Utilize specialized equipment including wound vacs and chest tubes; perform cardiac and respiratory assessments
- Document patient care accurately and timely using Meditech EMR; maintain clear communication in the medical record
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (cardiology, surgery, respiratory therapy) to ensure optimal patient outcomes
- Adapt to varying nurse-to-patient ratios (Medical 1:6, Laulima 1:6, Cardiovascular 1:4) and participate in unit-specific training and orientation programs
- Provide patient and family education related to cardiac conditions, recovery expectations, and discharge planning
