Requirements — Oncology RN / Travel Nurse
- Minimum 1 year of recent Oncology RN experience required (oncology nursing jobs experience)
- Active Illinois RN license (in hand or in application process) — Illinois nursing jobs candidates welcome
- BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross only)
- Chemo certification preferred; experience administering chemotherapy (IV, oral, continuous infusion, IV push)
- Experience with Cerner charting preferred
- Ability to float within hospital and to affiliate hospitals as needed
- Must be able to work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the assignment
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
- First-time travel nurses accepted — excellent opportunity for new travel RN assignments
Key Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based care to adult and geriatric oncology and hospice patients as an Oncology RN
- Administer and monitor chemotherapy safely (IV, oral, continuous infusion, IV push) and manage post-chemotherapy body fluids
- Recognize and communicate abnormal lab values and infusion reactions; respond to oncology emergencies
- Manage cytotoxic spills and ensure proper hazardous drug handling and disposal
- Access and manage ports, PICC lines, and central lines; perform IV therapy and blood product administration
- Provide patient and family education, discharge planning, and emotional support throughout treatment
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Pharmacy, Social Work, and Case Management
- Float to other units within scope to support facility needs as a flexible travel nurse
