- Location: Durham, NC (27710) — Durham healthcare / North Carolina nursing job
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks (Travel RN contract)
- Start Date: May 4, 2026 (targeted; bi-weekly orientations)
- Shift: Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00 - 07:30) — night shift PICU RN
- Hours per Week: 36
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: Required
- Patient Ratio: 2
- Unit: Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care (PCICU / PICU)
Qualifications & Job Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of recent PICU RN experience (pediatric critical care experience preferred)
- Active NC RN license or Compact RN license in hand
- Current BLS and PALS certifications required
- Epic charting system experience preferred (Epic experience for travel nurses)
- Previous charge experience, community hospital, LTAC, or Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
- First-time travelers and local candidates (within 75 miles) welcome
- One supervisory reference from the past year required
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality pediatric critical care nursing in a pediatric cardiac intensive care setting
- Manage and monitor pediatric patients with complex congenital heart disease and post-surgical needs
- Utilize advanced life support and specialty equipment including VADs, ECMO, CRRT, and ventilators
- Perform and assist with specialized procedures (e.g., lumbar puncture, intubation, arterial line management)
- Administer medications, blood products, and chemotherapy as needed following nursing protocols
- Maintain infection control and isolation precautions for pediatric patients
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy, pharmacy, IV therapy, physical therapy, and social services
- Document patient care accurately using Epic electronic medical records
- Float to other units as required to support patient care
